My name is Rocky Denson, and my wife Blaire and I own and operate Denson’s Grocery and R&B Oyster Bar in Colonial Beach, Virginia. We began a relationship with United Shellfish about 2.5 years ago. Our Market is about Fresh, Local and Quality.
Starting out in a new career after 20 successful years in financial services was quite a step and gamble for us. My Grandfather established the original Denson’s Grocery in 1912. My mother and father continued this family business in the 1940’s until they sold it in 1980. The last 5 years of my financial services career consumed me with the thought of reopening our family business. My wife and I knew that it would not work as a ‘Conventional’ Grocery Store like the market that my grandparents and parents operated. We had to be different. We found a location in a high traffic area of town and ‘pulled the trigger’. We reopened Denson’s Grocery on Memorial Day weekend in 2011.
Our products…nothing less than QUALITY and FRESH. Consumers are more educated about food these days and we realized this. One area of concern for us was seafood. We needed FRESH. We were not pleased with the quality and freshness of the product we were receiving, so we did a little research and found United Shellfish. Wow…We are so glad we did! JoAnne Zelko maintains our account and the quality of the fish and shellfish is second to none. We are proud of our relationship and we know what we are going to receive each week…FRESHNESS. Our customers know this too. Our seafood business has drastically increased. And…We feel like we receive very special treatment which is so important to us.
